And then there were three. Just the other week the short list for the role of Captain America hit the web. Well, it seems as though that list has gotten even shorter. Both The Good Guys’ Scott Porter and Michael Cassidy of the CW’s Privileged are out of the running leaving us with John Krasinski, Mike Vogel, Patrick Flueger, Chace Crawford and Garret Hedlund.

While that list and the concept that the actor awarded the role would sign a contract to play the part in a whopping nine films is questionable, Porter and Cassidy’s exits are not. Porter has opted to lead the CW pilot called Nomads and Cassidy flat out said – er, tweeted, “No Captain America for me.”

Both had potential, but this is really no big loss. Fans of The Office are likely pulling for Krasinski and love struck young ladies for Crawford. Some may recognize Flueger from Brothers and Hedlund from Georgia Rule, but neither has the fan base of the former two. My vote is for Vogel. Not only is he quite nice to look at, but he’s got a promising amount of room to grow and Captain America could be just the vehicle he needs to do it. He had a small but effective role in Cloverfield, was in the unnecessarily gory yet frighteningly fun Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot and he’s also in the upcoming romantic comedy She’s Out of My League, but is completely underused. Could this finally be his big break? My fingers are crossed.
