As a serious fan of the Scream series, any Scream 4 news is good news. Just a week ago Wes Craven’s involvement was finally confirmed locking in the director, Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courtney Cox and, of course, writer Kevin Williamson. During an interview with If Magazine about the CW show Vampire Diaries, Williamson had a little something to share about Ghostface’s fourth go-around.

To have [Neve Campbell as] Sydney back – well, I was always holding out hope, because the script is about Sydney, Gale [Courtney Cox] and Dewey [David Arquette]. The story for [SCREAM] Four, Five and Six – the launching pin of that was four, which is those three characters. But I found out originally when [Campbell] declined, I had to reroute it and that put all the onus on Gale and Dewey to carry the whole story, and that was me thinking fast on my toes, but luckily, we got her, I don’t have to do that, I can do it exactly the way I wanted and the story’s going to be told the way I originally conceived it. I’ve been contracted to write four and five.

It was obvious that if they returned, the original stars would no long be headlining the film, but it’s fantastic to hear that all three, particularly Sydney, play such a pivotal role. But, of course, the next development to keep an eye out for is the casting of the newcomers. Will Craven go A Nightmare on Elm Street on us and pick and choose from teen hits like Twilight? Plot details are also crucial when formulating any hopes for a cast and other than what Williamson has said here and the concept of having the vets unite with young actors, we know absolutely nothing. I’ll be keeping a keen eye on this one, and will let you know as soon as more information breaks.
