Does J.J. Abrams take us for a bunch of suckers? Does he think he can hide messages in promotion material and make us work for details on his new film Super 8? Of course he can; he’s J.J. Abrams. If the guy can keep millions hooked to the big ball of confusion that is Lost for six seasons, he can take us through a viral marketing maze of perplexity to learn more about Super 8.

After the URL ScariestThingIEverSaw.com was discovered hidden in the film reel portion at the tail end of the trailer, we were faced with an old school computer terminal. By entering in a series of prompts, you trigger a countdown. Just recently, it was discovered that upon its conclusion you are able to enter the prompt .PRINT RSCOM8, which prints out two newspaper articles.

On the surface, these papers seem to just be a Rocket Poppeteers advertisement and an except from a 1963 John F. Kennedy speech, but upon further investigation, the two combine to reveal a code. By flipping the advertisement upside down and lining it up with the article right side up, twelve words are highlighted: No certainty if a live may be after us We go underground.

The astronaut promoting the Rocket Poppeteers is Gordon Cooper, a guy who claimed to have seen UFOs. Will he have something to do with the film? Nobody really knows for sure, but perhaps that question will be answered when the Rocket Poppeteers website goes live. More to come on this one!
