Has it been far too long since you’ve seen Alan torment Stu, Phil and Doug in The Hangover? Well then Due Date is for you because by the looks of the film’s very first trailer, it seems Todd Phillips has taken the most annoyingly lovable character from his last film, given him a dog, a new friend to bug and planted him in another movie.

That new friend is Peter Highman (Robert Downey Jr.), a guy who’s hurrying home to his pregnant wife before her due date. It seems simple, but after an encounter with an aspiring actor played by Zach Galifianakis, it’s anything but. The two wind up traveling together on a road trip packed with gunshots, annoying questions, waffles, car wrecks and just about anything else you can imagine that might make Peter’s effort to get to LA more difficult.

There’s nothing wrong with sticking with a good thing especially when Galifianakis is such a natural at being a guy with good intentions, but no restraint. Downey Jr.’s name will also be headlining this one, but it looks as though it’ll be Galifianakis’ show. I’m sure there will be some sort of sentimental moment during which Peter teaches Galifianakis’ character about being a good friend and maybe even some more when he finally makes it to his wife, but based on this trailer, Due Date will be going straight for your funny bone and merely making a pit stop at your heart along the way and I doubt anyone will have a problem with that.
