Looking for something a little along the lines of Hostel in your life? If you’ll be attending the Fantasia Film Festival next week you might get the chance. Jon Knautz’s The Shrine is premiering on Sunday, July 25th and based on the film’s new trailer, it’ll deliver a hefty dose of torture porn with satanic twist.

When a group of young journalists (Aaron Ashmore, Cindy Sampson, Megan Heffern and Trevr Matthews) learn about an American backpacker who ventured into the remote Polish village, Alvaina, and never returned, they opt to investigate. While there, they wind up becoming the town’s next targets and get a firsthand look at far more than they bargained for.

This one certainly looks like it’ll be met with some aversion, but there’s still no denying that there’s a hefty handful of moviegoers out there with a taste for this sort of thing and for those individuals, The Shrine looks as though it’ll meet their needs. I’m not one for unnecessary blood and gore, but there’s something intriguing about this one.

On an unrelated note, it’s a little strange watching a guy that looks exactly like Shawn Ashmore. Yes, Aaron is his twin brother, but considering Shawn is more well known, I still look at the guy and think it’s him!
