Jennie Garth walked a group of students to PS 89 in New York City on the morning of October 5, as part of her duties as the spokesperson for International Walk to School Month, Popeater.com is reporting. The former ‘90210’ actress, who has three daughters with husband Peter Facinelli (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1), wants to help fight childhood obesity across the country, and therefore started working with Green Works Naturally Derived.

Garth told the website that she hopes that by walking with the students to school, it encourages children everywhere to live a healthy lifestyle. In regards to her work with Green Works, Garth said it’s a “…more fulfilling thing to me in so many ways than sitting on a set waiting for the lighting crew to be ready.”

During her walk to PS 89, Garth also said that the students’ mothers were more excited to see her than the children themselves. She added that the kids are a little young for ‘What I Like About You,’ her other hit show, or the current ‘90210’ spin-off series, on which she has made several guest-starring appearances.
