With Tony Gilroy confirming that he’s directing the fourth entry in the ‘Bourne’ series, questions are arising whether or not Matt Damon, who plays the title character Jason Bourne, would be returning. Hollywood Elsewhere is reporting that Gilroy is also confirming that Damon won’t be returning to ‘The Bourne Legacy,’ since Paul Greengrass, who wrote and directed the third film, ‘The Bourne Ultimatum,’ isn’t returning to the series either.

Greengrass has said he is interested in doing other projects. ‘The Bourne Legacy’ is rumored to have a completely different plotline than the book it’s based on, which was the first of the series that was written after original writer Rober Ludlum died. Gilroy added that although Jason Bourne won’t be returning to the series, he is, indeed, alive.

Gilroy is also denying that ‘The Bourne Legacy’ is a reboot or prequel to the original trilogy. He added that everything that happened in the first three films will impact his movie.
