‘Glee’ creator Ryan Murphy is rumored to be the front runner to direct a remake of the iconic cult musical ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show,’ Slashfilm.com is reporting. The 1975 movie, which stars Tim Curry and Susan Sarandon in one of her first roles, didn’t fare well at the box office when it was first released. But it has since developed a large midnight weekend screening following across the country, making it the longest-running theatrical release ever.

The news comes after Murphy just finished filming the ‘Rocky Horror’-themed ‘Glee’ episode, scheduled to air on October 26, just in time for Halloween. Fox 2000 is reportedly pursing Murphy to helm the remake, but the director/producer hasn’t committed to the project yet. He’s currently busy not only working on ‘Glee,’ but also filming ‘The Normal Heart’ with Mark Ruffalo. He also has a deal with Sony to reunite with ‘Eat Pray Love’ star Julia Roberts.
