With the recent influx of overseas television shows being adapted by American networks, the critically acclaimed Australian series ‘Wilfred’ is the latest one set to be remade. FX has picked up the rights to the show, and has confirmed that Elijah Wood will be starring as Ryan. His character has been described as “an introvert who struggles to find social and professional happiness, until he meets Wilfred, his next door neighbor’s Australian Sheperd.”

While the rest of the neighborhood just thinks of Wilfred as a regular dog, Ryan thinks Wilfred is a man dressed in a dog suit. In Ryan’s mind, Wilfred is also his alter-ego, who is “intent on pushing Ryan out of his shell.”

David Zuckerman, who co-developed ‘Family Guy,’ is serving as ‘Wilfred’s showrunner. He also developed the series, and wrote the pilot. Jason Gann, who co-created the original ‘Wilfred,’ will reprise his role as the title character. FX has ordered 13 episodes for the series, which are set to debut next summer.
