Colin Farrell has been offered the lead role in the new ‘Total Recall’ remake, and has begun negotiations to take it, Slashfilms.com is reporting. A deal has reportedly has made within the past week between the actor and director Len Wiseman.

Little else is known about the film, except that screenwriter Kurt Wimmer is modernizing the Philip K. Dick story ‘We Can Remember it For You Wholesale.’ The 1966 novelette was first made into a movie in 1990, the original ‘Total Recall’ with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Wimmer, who was hired by Columbia Pictures in June 2009 to write the new script, has reportedly made a lot of changes to the story.

The remake is being produced Ronald Shusett. He considered making the movie in the early 1980s with screenwriter David Cronenberg. However, Cronenberg wrote 12 drafts, and the two couldn’t agree on a version they both loved. They ultimately decided not to make the movie, allowing the studio Carolco to make its version with Schwarzenegger.
