Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have decided to try their hand at directing by signing on to helm the Paramount comedy ‘Doc and Howie’. The film, which was written by Steve Leff, follows two slackers who don’t help an old woman with her groceries. The woman dies as a result, and the two guys are left wondering if they should tell her two granddaughters of their part in her death.

Reese and Wernick rose to fame with last year’s modestly budgeted hit horror comedy film ‘Zombieland,’ and have been securing projects with nearly every major Hollywood studio as a result. Not only are they writing a second ‘Zombieland’ for Sony, they’re also writing a sequel to last year’s live-animated ‘G.I. Joe’ for Paramount. The two also signed a deal with Fox to write a ‘Deadpool’ spin-off, are adapting Disney’s comic book ‘Cowboy Viking Ninja’ and have teamed up with Universal to develop ‘Earth vs. Moon.’
