On the morning of Saturday, December 11, the award-winning feature film The Red Machine will be screened by the Desert Film Society at the Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs (2300 E. Baristo Road, Palm Springs, CA 92262). Doors will open at 9:00 a.m., when complimentary coffee and breakfast pastries will be available, and then the screening will begin at 9:15 a.m.

Co-directors Stephanie Argy & Alec Boehm will be attending the Desert Film Society screening, accompanied by members of the cast and crew. They’ll all do a Q&A after the movie and, in keeping with the 1930s setting of The Red Machine, will also do a Depression-era-style raffle giveaway…prizes hand-selected by the filmmakers themselves!

Opening for The Red Machine will be the 11-minute short film Gandhi at the Bat, a mock newsreel about the little known (and totally fictional) incident when Mahatma Gandhi pinch-hit for the New York Yankees in 1933. It was also directed by Argy and Boehm, and it features eight actors who also appear in The Red Machine, including both Perkins and Thoms-Cappello.

Tickets to the Red Machine/Gandhi at the Bat screening are $15 — but they’re free to members of the Desert Film Society, and to the winners of our ShockYa.com ticket giveaway.

The Red Machine is a caper adventure set in Washington DC, 1935. At the height of the Great Depression, ace safecracker Eddie Doyle (Donal Thoms-Cappello) is forced to collaborate with Lt. F. Ellis Coburn (Lee Perkins), a cool-as-ice Navy spy with a problem only Eddie can solve: the Japanese military has changed its encryption codes, with potentially devastating results for the U.S. A prominent Japanese diplomat holds the key to his country’s secrets in the form of a mysterious machine. As Eddie and Coburn work together to pull off the heist of a lifetime, they find more to the job than they bargained for, as things get very personal.
