A movie based on the iconic Madden Curse is being developed by Electronic Arts (EA), the company behind the Madden NFL video game, Slashfilm.com is reporting. Since Madden NFL made its debut in the mid-1980s, many of the NFL players who have appeared on the game’s cover every year have suffered serious injuries, thus creating the curse.

While New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who appears on the Madden NFL 2011 cover, hasn’t been injured, EA still hopes to cash in on the curse. The movie will reportedly follow “a former Madden video game champion who is forced out of retirement just as finds himself on the corner of the game’s cover-and subject to the curse.”

Pat O’Brien, the vice-president of EA, hasn’t confirmed the project yet, but is reportedly behind it. The movie comes after a television series, ‘Madden Nation,’ which shows football players competing against each other across the world, served as a spin-off of the game.
