According to The Hollywood Reporter, director David O. Russell is currently in negotiations with Universal to do a rewrite of their 2 Guns project.

The original draft of the screenplay was written by Blake Masters (Law and Order: Los Angeles, Rubicon, Brotherhood) before Russell was approached to do the rewrite. While Russell has several projects lined up following up his work on The Fighter, including a movie adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Russell is considering working on 2 Guns before going back to work on Uncharted, states The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie, based on a Boom! comic book series written by comic book veteran Steven Grant and illustrated by Mat Santolouco, will be about a DEA agent and an undercover Naval Intelligence officer who are investigating each other and stealing money from the mob, only to discover that the mob had them steal from the CIA. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film was picked up by Universal in the hopes of having Vince Vaughn in the leading role.

Aside from his direction on The Fighter, Russell is most known for the indie philosophical film I Heart Huckabees starring Lily Tomlin, Jude Law, Jason Schwartzman, Dustin Hoffman, and Mark Whalberg.
