The blogosphere was provided with a new press picture of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man yesterday, and now today we have the first images of Denis Leary as Captain George Stacy.

According to DailyBlam, a candid photographer managed to capture some fantastic shots of Leary during filming. From the looks of the pictures, the scene, along with Leary’s character, is all business. The pictures should also be reassuring to any scared Spider-Man fans, because it shows that 1) care is at least being taken to preserve the Spider-Man story for the original Spider-Man film fans, and 2) the characters appear to be taken seriously by everyone involved. Of course, that doesn’t guarantee that the film will be a success, but it appears to be on the right track.

Capt. George Stacy is an NYPD police captain and father of Peter Parker’s love interest, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). In the comics, he’s a staunch supporter of Spider-Man and vehemently approves of Gwen and Peter’s relationship.  Later on the comics, he also reveals that he knows more about Spider-Man than he lets on. The Spider-Man reboot, also starring Rhys Ifans, Sally Field, Martin Sheen, and C. Thomas Howell and directed by Marc Webb, is set to be in theaters July 3, 2012.
