Tribeca Films has confirmed via a press release that it has picked up the U.S. rights to Unified Pictures’ new film, ‘Janie Jones,’ and will release it theatrically, as well as video-on-demand, during the summer of 2011. The movie, which is being described as a rock ‘n’ roll road trip drama, tells the story of a father and daughter who find each other through music. ‘Janie Jones’ stars Abigail Breslin, Alessandro Nivola, Elisabeth Shue and Brittany Snow.

The life experiences of David M. Rosenthal, who wrote and directed the film, inspired the story for ‘Janie Jones.’ The movie, which garnered praise after premiering last year at the Toronto International Film Festival, follows a burned-out rock star father, Ethan, who suddenly has to take care of his 13-year-old daughter, Janie. As Ethan self-destructs and watches his band members leave him, Janie uses her own musical talents to help her father down the road to redemption.

Of the movie, Rosenthal said the story is close to him. “I didn’t meet my daughter until she was eleven years old and it was perhaps the most profound moment in my life. ‘Janie Jones’ captures that emotion. So, knowing Tribeca Film is treating the release of the film with such care is a great comfort to me.”
