According to ComingSoon, Alcon Entertainment has created plans for a sequel or prequel to the 1982 Ridley Scott film “Blade Runner”. The studio has plans for a franchise for the property and is in the final preparations to secure the rights for development as a television series, sequels, prequels or all three.

The idea behind this latest push to create a “Blade Runner” sequel or prequel may be due to Scott’s return to sci-fi, what with his “Aliens”-esque film “Prometheus”, according to ComingSoon. There is no news yet if Scott will work on a possible “Blade Runner” film.

The original “Blade Runner”, starring Harrison Ford, is about Deckard, a blade runner, who must track down four replicants who have stolen a spaceship and have returned to Earth to find their creator. The film eventually became a cult classic due to its mix of futuristic and classic Noir elements and was (and still is) heralded as a cinematic milestone. However, when it was originally released, audiences didn’t take to it as warmly as people do now, possibly because it was a bit too ahead of its time. The film is based on a sci-fi book by Phillip K. Dick called “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?”.
