Everyone has their own opinions about the film adaptations of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas, “The Cat in the Hat”and “Horton Hears a Who”. Most of those opinions are negative ones. But yet another Dr. Seuss book is being made into a film.

According to ScreenCrave, “The Lorax” is being made into a film. At the very least, it’s not going to be live-action. It’ll be an animated film that will star the voice stylings of Danny DeVito as the Lorax, Taylor Swift as the love interest to Zac Efron’s character, who is on the hunt for the Lorax, Betty White as Efron’s character’s grandmother, and “Daily Show” stars Ed Helms and Rob Riggle (Helms will play the Once’ler and Riggle will play King O’Hare). The animation will be done by “Despicable Me” studio Illumination Entertainment, unlike “Horton”, which was animated by Blue Sky Animation, the people behind the “Ice Age” films.

The taste Dr. Seuss book-to-film adaptations have left in the collective moviegoers’ consciousness is one that’s bitter at the very best. Just look at “The Cat in the Hat”; there was so many painful and inappropriate adult gags in a film adapted from a book that was only a few sentences long. Not to mention all of the pop-culture references that had no place in the film. Will this “Lorax” movie continue that trend of pop-culture-laden “children’s” films? I don’t know.

The film is expected to be in theaters sometime in 2012.  Will you go see it?
