Russian cosmonaut Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin became the first man to journey into outerspace on April 12th, 1961. To celebrate this accomplishment, Google.com has featured Yuri in the latest Google Doodle on their front page.
The Vostok 1 was Yuri’s only spaceflight, and he died tragically during a MiG 15 training flight in 1968. Here’s a YouTube video featuring the First Orbit and a photograph of Yuri himself.
