It would seem that the bland showing “Arthur” had at the box office hasn’t lessened Russell Brand’s star in Hollywood. The cheeky comedian is now going to be on the roster for “Rock of Ages”.

Brand was cast by Adam Shankman, the director of the film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical. In the film, Brand will play Lonny, the owner of a rock club in the 1980s.

Shankman announced the casting decision in a tweet, stating,” I can officially announce Russell Brand in as Lonny in #rockofagesmovie! I see a mullet in his future…maybe a Nikki Six?” This will be the second time Brand and Shankman have worked together; Shankman directed Brand in the Disney live-action comedy, “Bedtime Stories”, which starred Adam Sandler.

So far, the “Rock of Ages” film cast includes Diego Gonzalez González Boneta, Tom Cruise, Mary J. Blige, Alec Baldwin, Paul Giamatti, and Julianne Hough.

“Rock of Ages” is a story of an up-and-coming rocker who has aspirations for the big time, but finds he has to fight off an aging rock star for the love of a small-town girl who has dreams of becoming an actress. The film is set to be in theaters June 1, 2012.

What do you think about the casting of Brand? Do you think his “brand” (ha! puns) of humor will fit the film? Sound off below.
