The Hollywood Reporter and CinemaBlend are reporting that Isla Fisher is in negotiations to play Myrtle Wilson in Baz Lurhmann’s “The Great Gatsby”.

In the book, Myrtle was the woman Tom Buchanan was having an affair with. Toward the end of the book, she is killed by a car which precipitates the tragic climax of the story.

Fisher joins a cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, and Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan. Ben Affleck is hoping to play Tom Buchanan, and if the deal goes through the way he wants, he’ll get his wish.

The book “The Great Gatsby” tells the story of a self-made millionaire living in ritzy New England. Nick, his friend and narrator of the story, relays to the audience the sordid secrets surrounding Gatsby and his posh friends and neighbors. Baz Lurhmann’s adaptation is set to be in theaters sometime in 2012.

The writer of the CinemaBlend post thinks Isla Fisher is miscast, seeing how Myrtle is heavier and plainer in the book. But what do you think about this? Do you agree and think she’s miscast? If so, who would you cast in the role? Sound off in the comments section below.
