After a few months of speculation, the characters Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play in “The Dark Knight Rises” have officially been announced.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cotillard will play Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member devoting her time to help Bruce–who’s still grieving over the loss of Rachel Dawes(Maggie Gyllenhaal)–back on track with his philanthropic endeavors. Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under Commissioner Gordon.

Of course, these are not the roles fans and bloggers alike thought were going to be given to the actress and actor. The speculated roles were Talia Al Ghul for Cotillard and The Holiday Killer, The Riddler, or Robin for JGL.

Director Christopher Nolan said in a statement that he wanted to work with the actress and actor again. “When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes to no surprise that you want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again,” he said.
