Hollywood is all about mining for old properties to remake and cash-in on an established fan base. This is nothing new and should always be expected. Their latest is Paul Verhoeven’s 1990 sci-fi classic, “Total Recall”.

Colin Farrell and Brian Cranston have already been cast to play the hero and villain, respectively, in this remake. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Ethan Hawke will join the cast. At this time, it is unclear on which role Hawke will play but it is expected to be somewhat of a cameo appearance. Methinks, similar to Lawrence Fishburne in the reboot of last year’s “Predators”.

“Total Recall” is the film adaptation of the Philip K. Dick story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale” and directed by Paul Verhoeven starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sharon Stone and Ronny Cox. This movie is the standard and benchmark of late 80s/early 90s Hollywood action, sci-fi and awesomely gratuitous violence.

The remake is also in negotiations for the female lead between Jennifer Biel and Kate Beckinsale. It is set to start shooting in Toronto this june. It will also be directed by Len Wiseman (“Underworld/”Live Free or Die Hard”).
