According to Entertainment Weekly, Fox and their cartoon mastermind Seth MacFarlane will reboot the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon “The Flintstones”. Fox executives revealed the news yesterday in New York and that the show will go into production this fall for a 2013 launch.

MacFarlane is a fan of the original series. “One of the first things I ever drew was Fred Flintstone,” he said. He also gave a hint about what the storylines might be like. “The characters will look the same but the only thing that will change is the stories…What’s the [prehistoric] version of an iPod?”

Speaking as a “Flintstones” fan, I’m scared. “The Flintstones” had a bit of popular culture in some of the episodes, what with a Lawrence Welk-type character, The Cary Grant spoof character “Cary Granite”, and, in the later episodes, a family that lived next door that was like “The Addams Family”. But if MacFarlane is going to translate his “Family Guy” pop culture humor to “The Flintstones”, I’m not so sure how that works out. It certainly doesn’t work out in my head. Also, I wonder just how blue he’s going to make the show, seeing as how I figure it’ll be on the “Animation Domination” Sunday block.
