Mandalay has acquired the film rights to Joe Hill’s short story “Twittering from the Circus of the Dead”, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Chris Borrelli has been hired to write the script for the movie adaptation, and Todd Lincoln is in negotiations to direct the film. Hill, the son of best-selling horror author Stephen King, will serve as an executive producer for the movie.

“Twittering from the Circus of the Dead” is told entirely through tweets from a teenage girl. The story follows her family as they travel across America, but their road trip goes wrong when they encounter zombies. Hill has given Lincoln and Borrelli permission to take a new approach to the story.

The news of the film adaptation comes after Hill’s first novel, “Heart Shaped Box”, became a New York Times Best Seller. The film rights to that novel have been picked up by Warner Bros.
