Stephen Dorff has been chosen to replace Matt Dillon as Charlie Rankin, the male lead in the upcoming independent movie ‘Boot Tracks,’ Collider is reporting. No reason has publicly been given on the cast change. Appearing with Dorff in the film, which is based on the novel of the same name by Matthew F. Jones, are his ‘Somewhere’ co-star Michelle Monaghan and Ray Winstone.

The movie, which will be directed by David Jacobson, follows ex-con Charlie after he is just released from a four-year prison sentence. He has a fling with an insecure former porn star, Florence Jane, who will be played by Monaghan. After the fling, Charlie must perform an honor-killing for a fellow inmate, William “the Budda” Pettigrew, played by Winstone. Charlie agreed to perform favors for William, who kept him safe in prison. But Charlie accidentally shows up at the wrong house and kills an innocent couple, as he believes they’re his mother and her abusive boyfriend. Charlie then goes on the run with Florence, who is surprisingly accepting.
