‘Smallville’ executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders are standing by their decision to stay true to their “No Tights, No Flight” philosophy during the May 13, 2011 series finale, The Hollywood Reporter is confirming. The two continue to maintain that the hit CW sci-fi drama, which chronicled Clark Kent’s life before he became Superman for 10 seasons, wasn’t about showing lead actor Tom Welling in the full famous Superman suit.

Souders told The Hollywood Reporter that she and Peterson are happy that ‘Smallville’ fans are still debating whether or not Welling wore the entire suit once Clark became Superman. The final episode featured the actor in the top-half of the suit. The only scene which showed the entire suit was done from a distance in CGI, when Superman finally takes flight to save Earth.

Peterson told The Hollywood Reporter that they made the decision not to show the entire suit because they only wanted to hint “at where he was going because that is a whole different story that is yet to be told.” He added that what was included “gave just enough without starting to tell a whole different story that is left for all the other media.” He added that he’s happy everyone supports the shots they picked, and “we all wanted it to be the end of Clark Kent’s journey because it’s a show about Clark Kent.”
