The box office winner this week was the reboot/prequel combo film “X-Men: First Class”. The film raked in about $56 million during its opening weekend, and many critics have given the film stellar reviews. Rotten Tomatoes has given the film a critical percentage of 86% fresh and audiences gave it an 88% rating.

One glowing review of the film is from Film.com’s Eric D. Snider stated:

The damage inflicted on the X-Men franchise by the poorly received ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ and ‘X-Men Origins:Wolverine’ wasn’t quite as extensive as the harm done to Batman by the infamous ‘Batman & Robin’, but the brand was definitely in need of similar revitalization. Unlike ‘Batman Begins’, thought, ‘X-Men: First Class’ doesn’t start from scratch. Instead, it uses the themes of the previous movies to build an intelligent, fast-paced, and highly entertaining prequel. It also re-raises the bar for superhero flicks in general, which have gotten complacent lately.

But what do you, the viewing public think? Do you agree with the audience grade of 88% If you’ve seen the movie, what grade would you give it? Did it raise the bar for superhero flicks in your opinion? Leave your comments and honest opinions in the comments section below.
