“Mr. Popper’s Penguins” debuted last weekend, and the overall consensus is that the film is not bad enough to be panned, but not good enough to be excessively lauded. In short, the film is about as bland as the ice that fills Mr. Popper’s apartment. Here’s a bit of what the critics had to say:

“Such a brazenly moronic and uninspired example of a family movie that you’d swear it was a parody of brazenly moronic and uninspired family movies.”–Eric D. Snider, Film.com

“Green Lantern commits the cardinal sin for a summer tentpole movie. It’s flat out boring. There is a fairly entertaining finale, but by the time it rolls around, you couldn’t care less. It’s a pity, because I know a lot of people who adore the DC comic hero, and this film just doesn’t do the character justice. “–Shannon Hood, FilmJunk

“‘Mr. Popper’s Penguins” is kid stuff. This is good news for kids, not such good news for Jim Carrey fans looking for the elastic funnyman to stretch out and strut his silliness.”–Tom Long, The Detroit News
