Christopher Meloni has hinted that he’ll be playing a general in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman film ‘Man of Steel,’ Vulture is reporting. At this month’s New York’s Public Theater Gala, the former ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ star also dismissed rumors that he’ll be playing villain Lex Luther.

While Meloni didn’t give many details about the film or his role, he did say he’ll start filming at the end of August 2011. He’ll shoot over the course of five months in several different locations, including Chicago, Vancouver and Edwards Air Force Base.

Meloni will join already announced stars Henry Cavill in the title role, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon and Antje Traue. Russell Crowe and Julia Ormond are also being considered for roles in the Warner Bros. superhero film, which will be released in December 2012.
