‘Glee’s Darren Criss, who plays Blaine, and Harry Shum Jr., who portrays Mike, have officially been upgraded to series regulars for the third season of the hit FOX musical comedy-drama, Deadline is reporting. The news comes as Chord Overstreet’s series regular option hasn’t been picked up for the upcoming third season.

However, Overstreet may return as McKinley transfer student Sam Evans in an occasional guest starring role. The news comes after he tweeted “It’s been a good year. Too bad it’s over. Time for summer and something fresh.”

Another Season 2 guest star, Ashley Fink, may appear in fewer episodes in the upcoming season, despite appearing in almost every episode this year. The news comes after the cast is wrapping up its concert tour. Also, the series’ creator, Ryan Murphy, told Ryan Seacrest that many of the primary student characters would graduate by the end of Season 3.

“The show to me is about the way you express yourself as you start to move out into the world as a fresh, young person,” Murphy has also said. “Do we really want to have an eight-year high school senior?” He added that the only way the students can remain on the show is if they fail out of school, “and that is always a possibility. I think Brittany is pulling straight Fs.”
