For anyone hankering for immediate information on “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” maybe the prequel comic will whet your whistle.

“Rise of the Planet of the Apes” prequel comic is online only and updates each Wednesday. Right now in the comic, chimpanzees are being hunted by humans, and the chimps are desperate to stay together, meaning that they’ll hurt or kill anyone who tries to break them up.

I will say that it’s a bit weird to have a prequel comic for a prequel movie, but I guess that argument could be given to “Star Trek,” which also had a prequel comic. You can read the online comic by clicking here.

“Rise of the Planet of the Apes” stars James Franco, Freida Pinto, Andy Serkis, Tom Felton, Brian Cox, David Hewlett and David Oyelowo. The film is a remake/reboot of the “Planet of the Apes” series, in particular “Conquest of the Planet of the Apes,” in which an ape named Caesar helps his ape brethren to rise up against the humans oppressing them and creates a planet where apes are the leaders. The original actor who portrayed Caesar was Roddy McDowall, who also portrayed Caesar’s father, Cornelius.

What do you think about a prequel comic for the film? Sound off in the comments section below.
