The Werner Herzog-directed film ‘Cave of Forgotten Dreams’ is now available to watch on demand via SundanceNOW, before it’s released on DVD. The 3D IFC movie, which has earned $3.7 million so far, making it the highest grossing independently released documentary of 2011, can either be streamed on-line or downloaded for $6.99.

‘Cave of Forgotten Dreams,’ which is also the the 25th highest grossing documentary of all time, was an official selection at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival. It follows Herzog’s exclusive expedition into the nearly inaccessible Chauvet Cave in France. The cave houses the most ancient visual art created by man. The artwork shown in the film dates back over 30,000 years, almost twice as old as any previously-discovered pieces.
