One of the most-awaited films of the summer is “Cowboys & Aliens” starring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford. However, the film isn’t going over with critics as well as one might hope.

The film currently has a critical rating of 44% on Rotten Tomatoes while the audience has given it 63%. Even though the audience has been less forgiving, the critical consensus, according to the site, is that Craig and Ford “are as dependably appealing as ever, but they’re let down by director Jon Favreau’s inability to smooth Cowboys & Aliens’ jarring tonal shifts.”

Here are some snippets of what the critics thought:

“Cowboys & Aliens is an agreeable time-killer, but I’ll bet a couple of clever kids could make a livelier movie with a Woody puppet and a Predator doll.”–David Edelstein, New York Magazine

“Where to begin with ‘Cowboys & Aliens’? As advertised, the movie concerns, cowboys, aliens, and the inevitable disputes that arise between the two. If you find this conceit irretrievably silly, the film is unlikely to persuade you otherwise.”–Christopher Orr, The Atlantic

“A film that entertains, even if it doesn’t live up to the full-on madness potential the title portended. “–Laremy Legel, Film.com
