I have studied art and I appreciate it, but one style of art that creeps me out the most is when art interacts with life in a way that seems like it breaks reality. The freaky Salvador Dali sculptures (really, surrealist sculptures in general), the statue of Peter Pan pulling at his shadow, and any statue of The Little Mermaid, particularly this one and the one at Ariel’s Grotto in Disneyworld are such examples, but I think I’d prefer them over this gigantic sculpture of a giant bather.

According to CNN, UK beauty company Soap & Glory commissioned to have a gigantic woman bather sculpture produced for their launch in Hamburg, Germany. According to the company, the sculpture, “Die Badende” (“The Bather”) which was placed in the Inner Alster Lake for a 10-day promotion, is a way to say thank you to the country for accepting their products.

The sculpture is impressive, and the idea of it is cool, but I’d be scared to see that in real life. Personally, I just have a real phobia of things that interrupt my understanding of reality.

What about you? Do you like sculptures that have the potential to freak you out? Would you like to see “Die Badende” in real life? Sound off below, and if you’d like to learn more about the campaign, check out Soap & Glory’s site.
