An Ohio man shot eight people, including his girlfriend and her brother, in Copley on August 7, 2011 before police killed him during an exchange of gunfire, The Huffington Post is reporting. Police don’t know the gunman’s motives, and haven’t released his or the victims’ identities.

The Copley Police Department did issue a news release, stating that after the gunman shot his girlfriend, he ran to the house next door and shot her brother and four others. He then chased two more people through some yards and shot one of them. The gunman then proceeded to a third home and shot another person before leaving and exchanging gun fire with police.

Copley Superintendent Brian Poe said a township trustee told him two Copley High School students were killed. An 11-year-old, who wasn’t a Copley student, was also killed.

The neighborhood was blocked off by police late into the night. About 200 people assembled for an impromptu candlelight vigil at a park for the victims.
