After five seasons, constant worries of cancellation, and a network swap, Peter Berg’s ‘Friday Night Lights’ series managed to get the recognition it deserves. The football series that starred Kyle Chandler in the role of Coach Eric Taylor, in the small Texas town of Dillon, with series regulars Connie Britton, Aimee Teegarden, Taylor Kitsch, and a slew of other talents, took home the “Program of the Year” award at the twenty-seventh annual Television Critics Association Awards this past Saturday.

The ceremony was held in Beverly Hills at the Hilton, with ‘Parks and Recreation’ actor Nick Offerman playing host of the event.  In what would be a perfect win for the show, that just ended this past July, a TCA Award is icing on the cake, and hopefully some much needed motivation for director Peter Berg, and his partner Jason Katims, to keep plugging away amid some negative opinions across the web when it comes to another Friday Night Light movie.

TV series such as ‘Mad Men’, and ‘Modern Family’, were also winners at the event, as well as Jon Hamm for the Individual Achievement in Drama, ‘Sesame Street’, ‘Game of Thrones’, and ‘Sherlock’.  ‘Amazing Race’ was also awarded for the new reality programming category.
