Gavin DeGraw was beaten by several men in Manhattan’s Lower East Side on August 8, the New York Post is reporting. After drinking with friends, the ‘Chariot’ singer left around 4 am, when he was attacked near 6th Street and 1st Avenue. His nose was broken, and he suffered cuts on his face.

After being attacked, DeGraw kept walking. He ended up at 19th Street and 1st Avenue, where he was struck by a cab, though not seriously. The singer’s spokesman later released a statement, saying DeGraw was taken to Bellevue Hospital by ambulance, and is currently still there under observation. While the attack doesn’t appear to be a robbery, the statement also said they have no additional information at this time.

However, it’s being reported that police were only contacted after DeGraw arrived at the hospital. An investigation is currently underway, but no arrests have been made yet.

The attack occurred five blocks from National Underground, a bar and live venue DeGraw owns with his brother, Joey. It hasn’t been revealed if DeGraw was at National Underground prior to the attack. DeGraw described the bar as “a little musical joint where local acts can come through and feel comfortable. We’re just doing what we like.”
