‘The Carrie Diaries,’ the potential television series based on ‘Sex and the City’ author Candice Bushnell’s recent book about Carrie Bradshaw’s high school years, may be headed to The CW, Deadline is reporting. The teen-focused network is currently in the preliminary talks with Warner Bros. TV, which would produce the series.

‘Gossip Girl’ executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are being considered to produce the show through their Warner Bros. TV-based Fake Empire banner. Former ‘Sex and the City’ writer-producer Amy Harris, who has been writing for ‘Gossip Girl’ this upcoming season, is being courted to write for ‘The Carrie Diaries.’

HBO has first rights to air ‘The Carrie Diaries,’ but since the series would be targeted to a younger audience, the network is looking for another outlet for the show. The CW is high on the list, given its position as a Time Warner corporate sibling to HBO and its young female target demographic.
