All US distribution rights for director Tony Kaye’s new movie ‘Detachment,’ including theatrical, VOD, digital, TV and DVD, have been acquired by Tribeca Film. The ensemble drama, which had its World Premiere at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, is expected to have a 2012 release via a multi-city theatrical engagement, which will begin the same day as its nationwide VOD and digital distribution.

‘Detachment’ follows educator Henry Barthes, played by Adrien Brody, who has a gift of easily connecting with his students. But Henry has chosen to hide his gift by becoming a substitute teacher, so that he can avoid forming long-lasting, emotional connections with his students. Henry is then placed at a public school where the frustrated administration has created an apathetic student body.

Henry then becomes a role model to, and forms emotional connections with, the indifferent students and his colleagues. He realizes that he’s not alone in a world he believed was loveless.

‘Detachment,’ which was written by Carl Lund, also features Christina Hendricks, James caan, Marcia Gay Harden, Lucy Liu, Blythe Dannee, Bryan Cranston and William Petersen. Kaye said he was drawn to the movie because he wanted to take the character of Henry and make him universal. He added that “looking at the ever changing landscape of film distribution, I think the Tribecca Film team is perfectly positioned to shepherd ‘Detachment.'”
