Writer-director Tyler Perry has been named as the top-earning man in entertainment, according to Forbes.

Perry being at the top of the list isn’t surprising once you realize what a juggernaut he has become in entertainment, starting off with his deal with Lionsgate to translate his popular stage plays to movies. Aside from his string of popular films as well as extending his deal with Lionsgate, Perry has also had several popular shows on TBS, including “House of Payne” and “Meet the Browns.” A new show, “For Better or Worse,” will be premiering on TBS soon.

Perry will also be starring in “I, Alex Cross” and has been featured in a big money-making movie, “Star Trek.”

Say what you will about whether Perry’s subject matter being detrimental to the African-American cause (goodness knows the debate is as divided as they come), but you can’t deny that Perry’s work has made him king of Hollywood. And even if you don’t agree with the character Madea, it is rare to see a person of color at the top of the Hollywood game, so that in itself is a refreshing and inspiring change.

What do you think about this news? Are you happy for Perry’s success? What are your opinions on his “Madea” movies and television shows? Give us your opinions in the comments section below.
