It would seem that another version of the Judah Maccabee story is in development, which has made this entire ongoing Mel Gibson “Judah Maccabee” saga even more interesting.

Bruce Nash, producer of “Modern Marvels,” is currently working on a version of the Hanukkah story for a potential television miniseries or movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This news comes three weeks after Warner Bros. announced they were working with Mel Gibson to create a movie about Judah Maccabee. However, Gibson’s movie has been rebuked by leaders in the Jewish community due to Gibson’s anti-Semitic comments a few years ago.

The dislike the public still has for Gibson is making the film a hard sell to movie-goers, but the Nash project could provide audiences an alternative if the Gibson film actually gets made. Also, according to the article, the Nash project also has a finished script, something Gibson’s film doesn’t have at the moment. The script is written Scott Abbott (“Winchell”, “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge”). Aside from Nash, Bob Kosberg and Maura Dunbar of Odyssey Networks will produce the project.

What do you think about this development? Do you think the new Judah Maccabee project will edge out Gibson’s? Give us your opinion in the comments section below.
