All 178 episodes of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ are being transferred to high-definition for the first time and released on Blu-ray. Ken Ross, the Executive Vice President and General Manager of CBS Home Entertainment, has said the series is heading to Blu-ray because fans have been asking for a high-definition release for years. “We can’t wait to show fans how pristine the series looks and sounds with our upcoming Blu-ray releases,” he added.

The first full season of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ won’t be released until later in 2012, which marks the show’s 25th anniversary. However, a single Blu-ray disc will be released on January 31. It will feature the feature-length pilot, ‘Encounter at Farpoint,’ as well as two fan favorite episodes, Season 3’s ‘Sins of the Father’ and Season 5’s ‘The Inner Light.’
