WestMidWest Productions & Area 23A are set to release their new documentary feature ‘Revenge of the Electric Car’ in select theaters on October 21. The markets that will first receive the film will be those whose interested audiences visit the movie’s website and request it come to their area.

‘Revenge of the Electric Car,’ which was co-written by Chris Paine and P.G. Morgan and directed by Paine, follows the filmmaker as he goes behind the closed doors of Nissan, GM, the Silicon Valley start-up Tesla Motors and independent car converter Greg Abbott. The movie will also tell the story of the global resurgence of electric cars.

Paine also aims to show that almost every major carmaker is now working to produce new electric cars. The car manufacturers want to be the first to win the minds of the public around the world. But they also have to develop the concept into a working model, and struggle with the economy, the press and each other.

‘Revenge of the Electric Car’ follows Bob Lutz, the GM executive working on the Volt, the company’s newest electric car program. Elon Musk, the young billionaire and head of Tesla Motors who feels Silicon Valley can teach Detroit lessons about car making, is also chronicled. Also shown is Carlos Ghosn, the head of Nissan who amazed the car world in 2009 when he announced the launch of the company’s affordable electric vehicle, the LEAF.

The documentary is narrated by Tim Robbins, and features Danny De Vito, Jon Favreau, Stephen Colbert, Adrian Grenier and Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was produced by Morgan and Jesse Deeter.
