Despite the terrible choices in fashion, the 1980’s were a good times. The IBM PC became a dominate computer for home users competing with Apple, Nintendo had 90% of the American video game market, VHS won the over the Betamax standard and were available for rent at video rental stores. The Walkman, the Boombox, good times indeed. Here’s a small list of 10 of the best films from the ’80s:

#1“Coming To America”–This 1988 film is one of the best Eddie Murphy comedies ever. It’s become a classic since its release, and the story of Prince Akeem (Murphy) going to New York to find a bride has so many gems–Arsenio Hall and his terrible, vague accent (and, by extension, Murphy’s terrible, vague accent); James Earl Jones and Madge Sinclair playing Murphey’s parents, McDowell eateries, SoulGlo (something I wish I owned), the various characters Murphy plays (the most notable being “Sexual Chocolate”‘s Rand Watson), and the song “She’s Your Queen To Be.” Classic.
