David Gordon Green has signed onto write and direct the film adaptation of Evan Mandery’s novel ‘Q,’ Collider is reporting. The ‘Pineapple Express’ helmer will work on the movie, which is being prodcued by Matt Tolmach and Pouya Shahbazian, for Columbia Pictures.

‘Q’ follows an unnamed hero as he prepares for the wedding to the love of his life, Q. Shortly before the wedding, he’s visited by a man who claims to be his future self, and who warns him not to marry Q. The protagonist at first doubts the stranger, but in times comes to believe the man and leaves his fiancĂ©e.

The protagonist is left with a void in his life, which is impossible to fill. His future self comes back to convince him to marry, and later divorce, someone else. The older self also wants the younger self to attend, and then leave, law school, and then join, and later quit, a running club. The protagonist is also urged to study the guitar, the cello, Proust, Buddhism and opera. H’s also advised to eliminate gluten from his diet. The only constants in the protagonist’s life during his continued quest for improvement are his love for New York City and for Q.
