We’ve got a bit of a problem; I love this clip, but it somewhat spoils one of the best scenes in Young Adult. In fact, I don’t know if I even want to describe the clip here. Let’s just leave it as a “watch at your own risk” piece and move onto a full film synopsis.
Charlize Theron is Mavis Gary, a former high school hottie who moved to the “Mini Apple,” Minneapolis, and became the ghostwriter of a popular young adult novel series. After a failed marriage and getting assigned to pen the final installment of the now-failing Waverly Prep collection, Mavis opts to return to her glory days in her hometown of Mercury and take what she considers is rightfully hers – her high school sweetheart, Buddy Slade (Patrick Wilson). Sure, Buddy’s married and has a newborn baby, but that’s not stopping Mavis.
So, again, watch this clip at your own risk. It’s a fantastic promotional tool – well cut and packs quite a bit of absurdity and memorable dialogue – but this scene in full is downright fantastic, so I wouldn’t want this sneak peek to spoil it in the least.
