According to Variety, Tom Cruise has inked a deal to star in director Doug Liman’s ‘All You Need Is Kill’. Although a filming start date of late 2012 seems a long time away, just getting this project off the ground is good news considering (per several sources) Kill has been sitting idol for a while.

All You Need Is Kill is based on a graphic novel and will follow Cruise as a soldier battling it out with aliens before being killed and “reliving his last day over and over”, with the repetitive tortuous fight making him a better soldier. The adaption was written by Dante Harper with a rewrite from Joby Harold, who is also on board as executive producer. Erwin Stoff, Jason Hoff, and Tom Lassally will be producing Liman’s project.

Tom Cruise is currently shooting One Shot. He will then work on his next movie, also a sci-fi flick, Oblivion. According to the Huffington Post, Oblivion centers on a “lone soldier stuck on an uninhabitable Earth’s surface, fixing drones that protect the planet — and its sky-bound clone citizens, who live above the polluted clouds — from attacking aliens. When he finds a beautiful woman in a fallen ship, adventure and an awakening of a past life love ensue.” Cruise will then move on to All You Need Is Kill.
