“Pariah” is one of the last films of 2011, if not the very last one to come out before 2012. However, just because it has come out last doesn’t mean it’s least.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, “Pariah,” directed by Dee Rees and starring Adepero Oduye and Kim Wayans, has gotten a critical rating of 96% and an audience rating of 74%. This film, about a young black girl coping with owning her sexuality has gotten the attention of Hollywood, and deservedly so.

“The coming-out/coming of age story is almost a genre of its own, but ‘Pariah’ has a fresh and distinctly urban take, anchored by an affable lead performance,” said USA Today. Joe Neumaier of the New York Daily News also said that the film is “so honest and touching” and Peter Travers of Rolling Stone said “The gifted Dee Rees makes finding out a stirring and heartfelt journey. And Adepero Oduye is unforgettable. A star is born.”

ShockYa has also gotten in on “Pariah” fever by interviewing Rees about the film, which you can read about here.
