Personally, “The Vow” is not the type of movie I would be naturally inclined to go see. I’m not up for romance movies in general (even though musicals and about half of Bollywood movies are exactly the same thing and I those). In America, the whole romance movie genre is plagued by cliches and sheer stupidity.

I have not seen the movie, but I am not surprised to see that “The Vow,” starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams, has a 30% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I am also not surprised to see that it has a 71% rating from audience members. The warring factions both hate it and love it for the same reasons; according to Rotten Tomatoes, the synopsis of the critical response is that “Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams do their best with what they’re given, but ‘The Vow’ is too shallow and familiar to satisfy the discriminating date- night filmgoer.” The audience loves it because, due to its familiarity, they already know where the story is going to go, making it a comfortable and safe watch.

What do you think about the film? If you’ve seen it and loved it, tell us why in the comments section. If you hated it, sound off on those feelings too. The public needs to know!
